Dogs have long been called man’s best friends, and for good reasons. Between 19,000 and 32,000 years ago, domestication began as a means of survival: we provided them with warm places to sleep and permanent food scraps, they offered us protection from predators. Over time, dogs will become a more important part of our lives.
The pet industry itself has experienced tremendous growth over the past century, as we continue to treat our dogs like family members. By 2022, the pet industry in the United States, consisting of pet toys, medicines, food and everything our four-legged friends need, will reach $72 billion.
